At&t announces the NEC Terrain! NEC has been producing cell phones for quite some time now however; a smart phone is not something we have seen from the company. The multinational information technologies company has had their hands in many different projects in the past. From batteries for electric cars, to PC’s and semi conductors it looks as if NEC is looking to break into the American smart phone market! Early last year NEC announced it would be cutting many jobs globally and stepping up their mobile landscape in order to compete in the smart phone market and subsequently launched three different handheld’s, one of which being a dual screen folding phone. Most recently however NEC is bringing an ultra rugged touch screen device that just so happens to also have a built in QWERTY keyboard!
At&t and NEC announced the pairings latest smart phone. The NEC Terrain is brought into this crazy mixed up world and is set to be made available today, June 21st and cost its end user a mere $99.99 under the thumb of a new two year contract. So with a price and a launch date out in the open, anyone interested to know what one hundred bucks will get ya? The NEC Terrain is an Android 4.0 based device that measures in at 14mm thick and comes packing both a touch screen and a physical keyboard. Said screen measures in at 3.1 inches, and offers up a 480×640 pixel resolution at 258 pixels per inch. Internally the Terrain comes with a 1900 mAh battery that will power a Qualcomm made Snapdragon S4 Pro Plus MSM8960 system chip that offers up a dual core 1.5 GHz Krait processor. Additionally we can expect an Adreno 225 graphics processor, 1 GB of RAM, 8 GB of internal storage and expandable micro SD memory options up to 32 GB. Around back the Terrain houses a 5 mega pixel camera with LED flash and video recording capabilities while a VGA quality camera is embedded up front. Additional connectivity for the NEC Terrain also included 4G LTE, GPS, Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi, micro USB and even NFC. Lastly, the NEC Terrain gets its name from its rugged build that is MIL-810G certified making it water, dust and shock proof.
