The new HTC One M8 is finally official! After what seems a life time the rumors and speculation surrounding the next generation HTC One can finally rest! HTC has unveiled the device to much anticipation and fan fare, but is it all that it was cracked up to be? While the answer to that may be a bit undecided at this point, the new HTC One is an excellent new contender at the top of the heap. So what is the new HTC One all about? Let’s have a gander shall we!
The HTC One has slowly been leaking out all over the place. In true HTC form, there were not many secrets about the device lingering around before launch. The few details that were unknown at this point are official! The new HTC One aka, the M8 starts with a 5 inch touch screen display that offers up a 1080×1920 resolution at 441 pixels per inch. This HD screen is built into a beautiful piece of aluminum and measures in at a mere 9.35 mm thin. The touch screen will give its end users control over Android version 4.4 and the latest in HTC Sense, version 6 aka the 6th Sense. Internally the new One comes with a highly capable Qualcomm made Snapdragon 801 system chip that offers up a quad-core processor that clocks in at 2.3 GHz. The device also packs in an unnamed GPU, 2 GB of RAM, 16 GB of internal storage and expandable micro SD memory up to 128 GB. The camera sensors found on this new HTC One have been one of those missing links surrounding the device and today we have learned the device has twin 4 mega pixel rear facing sensors and accompanying dual LED’s. Additionally the front facing camera uses a 5 mega pixel sensor. Additionally the new One comes packing a slightly larger battery than its predecessor at 2600 mAh and sports connectivity such as GPS, Glonass, Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi, micro USB 2.0, DLNA, Infrared, MHL, Miracast and NFC!
The new HTC will be put on sale today! Verizon Wireless has gotten their hands on the device and starting today at 1PM eastern time you’ll be able to purchase a big red branded One online or in stores. At&t and Sprint’s online sales will commence today as well, however you won’t be able to pick up a One in stores until April 11th. Pricing will start at $199 for 16 GB on contract, $249 for 32 GB on contract. T-Mobile has yet to solidify plans for the handset, but it is expected sometime next month. Additionally the new One will be offered up in unlocked and developer options. A Google Play edition will be up for sale sometime soon and should run you about $699 while an unlocked version of the device can be found on HTC’s own website for about $649.
